GDC Quotes

Reading an article outlining a few quotes from the GDC last week, one stick out in particular.

This may sound like a cliche but I still believe we can come closer to world peace if everybody believes in love -- the love of videogames.

That's kind of creepy.
It makes me think of Farenheit 451.
People falling in love with the screen, it becoming their "family".

A little out of context, though your point is valid.

The quote is from his talk for the game design challenge: Make a game that would win the Nobel Peace prize. The point he was getting at was not worship of the game (as in worship of the screen) but that the game as a common bond in which the real person-to-person relationships start.

I don't understand what the Californian politician is trying to say...

Government doesn't care how kids are raised, society is faced with problems stemming from poorly raised children... we should make kids work in factories again?

just kidding. No but really... instead of facing the issue of poor parenting, this politician wants to censor video games? what, is his/her actual standpoint. It's so ambiguous, I'm on the edge of my seat.

In short, he wants to put limits of 'ultra-volient' games at point of sale for < 18. Of the politians taking up the issue, he's one of the more level-headed ones. Well, more than most.
