...Like I See 'Em (for bettercop)

Jane waited until everyone was out of the office and Lisbon was busy with her paperwork before he poked his head in her office, bracing himself on the door frame. She worked late, these days. Later than usual. It's why he was here, actually.

"Hey."

Lisbon wasn't exactly surprised to hear Jane's voice--the man was often here late, himself--but there was something about the way he just said, "Hey" that had her thinking he was probably going to bring up something she'd rather not talk about. She braced herself, but didn't look up from her paperwork.

"Hey."

Jane stepped into the office, and put a hand in one of his pockets.

"That's not going to work forever, you know."

Right to the chase.

Have a 'trying to play dumb' look, Jane. She, at least, set her pen down and folded her hands innocently on top of her pile of papers.

"What isn't?"

Jane nodded at the papers. Her denial amused him, sometimes.

"That. This," he indicated the office at large, "All of it. You think if you work long enough and hard enough, if you ignore the problem, it'll go away. Eventually you'll catch the bad guy and you'll maybe let yourself go then."

He kept on, as cool and simple as ever. "The problem isn't without, Lisbon. It's within."

Sure that sounded like a bit of New Age mumbo-jumbo, but it was true. It wasn't lack of paperwork that made her upset over Bosco.
