First, my short story, Bungling Lulu, is available online for your reading pleasure. Who ever heard of a clumsy pixie? Poor Lulu struggles to remember all the rules of flying. I’d appreciate if you’d leave a comment and share the story link to make me look popular.

Second, my short story, Dragon Drool, is in the current issue of Beyond Centauri ( ( Read more... )

My daughter is home right now (only going to pre-K three mornings a week), but when she is in school full time next year, I may have to go back to work. It depends how much money I end up making from writing and editing between now and then. Honestly, we are doing fine with my husband's salary, but I need to feel I'm contributing. I am waiting until the end of the year to add up my income. It's more than it's ever been, but I'm still afraid to do the math. Eek!

It's funny because working offers its own rewards. You get out of the house and LIVE life so that you have more material to write with. I keep telling myself, "You got a book written, edited and PUBLISHED while you were working." So working isn't a total deal breaker.

Good luck making the decision when it comes time. Perhaps you will be lucky like I was and feel you can get away with working part time. Well, best case is you'll feel your writing income is sufficient to continue plugging away fulltime.

I love that you have the time to write, even if its under less than great circumstances. :) And you are so right about researching submissions taking crazy amounts of time. While I continue to do both (traditional route and self-pub) it amazes me how much more time I can spend on craft/writing/marketing when I'm not doing the submissions part.

And hooray for you in getting your shorts published! :)

Thanks Anon! I was so mad about being laid off. But writing has been the salve to the wound and I'm healing. Our jobs are such a huge part of our identity. I'm finally starting to embrace writing as my "job". Now if I could just make it pay off...

All in good time.
