It is like a hunger that won’t be satiated. A thirst that won’t be quenched. It seems like I drink and drink only to feel more parched. You know that mosquito bite on the arch of your foot? The one you scratch until it’s raw, but still itches? It’s like that. It feels like the need is eating away inside me and leaving a growing hollowness, like a ( Read more... )

Found you over at Verla Kay's and I understand what you're saying. Thankfully I'm satisfied by just having my work under consideration. That keeps me motivated to keep writing so there'll always be the possibility of another "yes". The emptiness comes when I'm not waiting for an answer. So the key for me is to keep the ideas coming, to keep the stories flowing, to keep having something to submit. That way there's always hope. Hope fills me up.

What does the craving feel like? Hopelessness. Like a deflated balloon with a gaping hole in the side. So it's not really a craving to be published, but an emptiness at the thought of not being published.

Angelina, that is a really good point. I'm like you that as long as my work is out there being considered I have hope. I always have to have work submitted. So glad you stopped by! The blue boards are AWESOME, aren't they?

You're right. No matter how many acceptances we get, we want more. And it's not a matter of being greedy or ungrateful. It's a matter of needing to share our words with our readers. Writing is our life and we want to share it as much as possible. At least that's what it feels like to me.

Hey Kelly!

Yep, without that final connection with the reader, it seems unfinished. And then new words come and it all starts over. Vicious circle.

It's sort of like, what's the point of doing what we do if we can't share our words with the rest of the world? I LOVE to share a particularly brilliant (I think) story that I've written with my family. :)
