Why do you participate in social media?

As a pre-published author my intent was to make connections within the writing world and that has been successful as well as enjoyable.  It started with Verla Kay’s Blue Boards and then expanded to Facebook.  Both platforms are great for making connections.  Verla’s is an amazing wealth of information about ( Read more... )

I attempt to participate in #YAChat but I can only read, it all happens too fast for me to be able to participate. But I get enough out of it to learn something even when skimming.

I'm twitterpated but don't get there too often. Too many other places take my time. Facebook. SCBWI. MySpace. LiveJournal.BlueBoards. LInkd. JacketFlap. LibraryThing. Gather. I could go on and on. Really I don't visit some of these but occasionally. Writing is my preference. :)

Here's a link to my Library Thing. http://www.librarything.home/beverlyjean I don't go there often, but they have discussion boards and free books and you can post the books you like.

Linked is a networking thing with groups. I'm not sure what all it has. http://linkedin.com

Elle, do you prepare seperate posts for the two blogs? Isn't there a way to have one automatically update the other?

I'll go see if we've connected on the other sites. I'm pretty sure we have on Twitter, but I'm not sure about FB.

Hi, Kai! :-) Thanks for adding me as a friend here.

I have a website and a blog. I also participate at Verla's. I check certain websites and blogs once in a while but rarely comment. (Blogspot and WordPress have problems for me that I won't go into here.) I don't want anything else and don't have time for it.

I'm going to have to check out Verla - that's the only one I haven't ventured into that you mentioned.

Twitter is difficult to manage sometimes, but amazingly useful. I need to do a better job of stalking, I mean following, agents as I venture on this agent quest! It's very one-sided (agent-to-writer) but the other Twitterfriends I've made has made Twitter an amazingly cool resource. Even if I just want to say "Hey! I #amwriting!"

I find Twitter as a whole very one sided and much more narcissistic than FB. I'm always looking the for like button on tweets so I can give my input :) Once I 'embraced' the one sided conversation, I realized the value of following agents and bloggers, etc. It is a wealth of information. Where as FB is much more social.

Hope you enjoy Verla's as much as I do. Oh the things you can learn there!
