Last summer I was told I needed to lose weight as they wouldn't treat my PCOS until I did in the six months that I was between appointments I'd lost 6 kilos (13.2lb just under a stone) I was still having issues with my thyroid then as well which didn't help matters either as well as my crazy work that I'd just started which ment I didn't have time ( Read more... )

I'm glad to know you found a style of life that works for you and your health, which is the most important. I hope everything goes fine with your treatment. I'll be praying for you as I'm doing it for Nancy. She's quite a fighter.

People are amazed when I tell them that I lost weight by cutting meat out of my diet and that I'm now more healthy as I'm eating more protein than there is in meat or fish. I know alot of people who do become vegetarian and exercise see a great benifit from it and I'm happy for you I'm the same I don't weigh myself or anything I only know how much I have lost from my hospital visits as they weigh me each time I go there. Even tho I have lost a fair bit of weight none of it seems to of come off my stomach which means I should exercise to help that area mostly I have lost it from my face, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, back and bottom even my feet are thinner now than they were a year ago ( ... )

Are these "health professionals" not aware that PCOS causes weight gain??? (I have it, too.) It causes a hormone imbalance where you have more testosterone than estrogen in your system, so everything in your system gets thrown off whack. In my case, once I was fully through puberty (approx. 21 yrs old), I stopped menstruating and had to go on birth control pills so my body would be fooled into ovulating. (They fool your body into thinking it's pregnant for 3 weeks, and then the 4th week your body cleanses itself when it realizes it's not.) Those make you gain weight even more, but not having periods at least 4 times a year is REALLY BAD for your body. Like, toxic. Your female organs could get sepsis, and that is NOT a good thing. I found that out when I told the doctor at my college that my last period had been 2 years ago. She gasped and said, "Oh, my GOD, that is SO BAD for you!" and filled me in on why ( ... )
