So I have made my rank list. I haven't turned it in yet. I need to sit on it a while and see if I stay at peace about it.
Today I got to sew a feeding tube in place in the bowel for the first time; one of the million things I love about surgery is that there are so many firsts.

Today I started my two week cardiothoracic surgery rotation. I haven't been inside an operating room since early August. I'm finally finished with interviews and haven't even been inside the hospital properly in two months. So I just came back from a 60 hour trip in which I had a meeting with former (current?) spiritual director, Br.Sam, went to a pre-interiew dinner in Boston, interviewed in Boston, missed my flight to Chicago, arrived in Chicago via the next flight, went to a pre-interview dinner in Chicago, inteviewed in Chicag and then flew back to Florida via a ( Read more... ) -
Retreat
I logged on to lj with the intent of chronically a little about the amazing graces poured upon me at the retreat this weekend. However I have realized that writing about it will not do it justice but rather frustrate me in my inability to express the joy and hope that I received so I'm just going to have to talk about it indiviually.

For breakfast this morning I had my favorite cereal (Alpen and Autumn Wheat) topped with freshly chopped persimmon. It was amazing. -

It has only been one week since I arrived in Europe but it seems ages. On Monday and Tuesday I visited with my Dad's family down in County Kerry. This is always a fun endeavor that basically means lots of eating and drinking, activities I'm always down for. Yesterday during sit-down rounds we were discussing a new holding note admitted overnight. It was a woman who has been admitted 5 other times in 2007 alone. She has cor pulmonale secondary to pulmonary hypertension because of her refusal to use C-Pap for her severe sleep apnea. I just finished watching Gray's Anatomy, a pretty worthless show in general, but recently it has had the recurring theme of being able to tell a patient's family that “we did everything we could" and that has given me pause.
