I got SO MANY BOOKS!
*squee* *dance* *attempts to read all of them at once*

One of these books is 20 Master Plots and how to build them by Ronald B. Tobias. Reading (or rather, scanning through) this one accidentally unleashed a little bit of rage that I shall expurge below:
(warning: swearing, frothing, and a general "you")

I think I can tell you where you can stuff your 'true love conquers all'... )

books, rantings, harry potter

Now, I don't mean to rain on your rant, but I've never thought that was what Beauty and the Beast was about at all. I'm of the opinion that it's about love altering your perception of things. When she decides that she is in love, he becomes human. I guess I never saw the beast thing as an abuser, just someone so completely different from her that he's repulsive. And falling in love with him slowly makes her see that he's not all that bad. I guess what I'm saying is that it's more about the idea of love altering the perception of the one who loves, not changing the actual person. Hence Eliza leaving Henry Higgins. There is nothing there to love. He, unlike the Beast, makes no attempt to be pleasant, or a gentleman.

Wow I'm a nerd. Oi. Talk to you later.

Yeah, it occurred to me after I posted that I really was just babbling on that point. I was just ranting about it because I had to get my feelings out.
Meh. Stupid My Fair Lady. Dana spent FOREVER trying to convince me that Henry Higgins was a changed man by the end. Pfft. Henry Higgins is a jackass. I mostly just hate it when people's idea of "a happy ending" involves twu wuv. Arrgh.
But thanks for bringing it up ^_^
