[Sasori has been hunched over his worktable for hours since Deidara fell asleep, attempting to analyze the scroll that was responsible for his partner's condition, growing increasingly frustrated as his stack of notes grows larger but there's no true progress being made on finding a solution. This is the state he's in when his partner's dream interrupts him, and the experience unsettles him even further.

He has to find a solution, and he won't rest until he does. He needs to keep occupied, otherwise the distress and helplessness he feels over the situation will overtake him, and he refuses to allow himself to fall prey to such emotional weakness.

Even if a small voice in the back of his mind reminds him that it's emotional weakness that's fueling his obsession with solving the problem to begin with.

However, he needs to set his notes aside, for now. Deidara is probably awake, and Sasori simply can't leave him alone in his current condition.

He heads to the bedroom, and opens the door quietly. His voice is just as quiet.]

Are you

[Deidara has been staring at the ceiling since he awoke, trying to remember if he's here or not. It's dark and he can't see and he hasn't felt anything since the scroll, so maybe not, even if he thinks he can feel the futon he's laying in. Or he was in it, when he existed.

Oh, but there's Sasori. Deidara must exist, still.]

Mmhmm.

[Sasori enters the room, sliding the door closed quietly behind him. He sounds somewhat irritated, because attempting to maintain the illusion that everything is perfectly normal is preferable to the awkward, uncomfortable silences that otherwise result.

It's a less convincing front than usual, but it's better than nothing.]

Hmph, even when you sleep, you still find ways to interrupt me. I was in the middle of something, you know.

[He slips his cloak off and slides down into the futon beside his partner.]

Well, if I'm ever going to get any work done tonight it certainly won't be while you're awake. I'll just have to stay with you to make sure you fall asleep and don't trouble me further.

[He tugs gently on Deidara, pulling his partner into an embrace and encouraging him to curl up closer.]

I'm sorry.

[Deidara curls into Sasori's embrace easily enough, without really making eye contact. He's looking at his partner, certainly, but the real sight isn't there, got lost somewhere before and he can't be bothered to find it. But if Sasori is this close Deidara certainly exists.]
