WriterCon - The Friday Edition

Aug 07, 2009 12:21

Though several days after the fact, at last I’ve gotten a chance to write up my experience at this year’s WriterCon. In contrast to others who might have had a much more fannish few days in Minneapolis, I spent the majority of my time with only_passenger and was really interested in seeing the city and getting a feel for the local culture. Last ( Read more... )

Heh. It surely was for me. You caught the dying embers. Hopefully I didn't sound too far gone.

Did you imbibe, as well?

BTW - it was so nice meeting you. I'm sorry I missed the Britspeak panel. I had a conflict with another activity, but if there's a summary anywhere of what was discussed, link me!

It was a lot of fun. I wish there had been more people present that I actively know in fandom though. And, I hate to say it, but younger fans. Many of the people that I interacted with were at least in their '40s and some quite a bit older than that. I have no objection to this, overall, but it did get me down a bit to not have other youngin's to party hard with. When conversation veers into none fannish topics, like anyone, I'm at a specific time in my life and that place is going to be very different from someone with a spouse and children. I also hazard to say that I might have been the youngest person there, certainly of the Buffy crowd. No one else mentioned watching Buffy at 10 years old with their Mom! I felt very self aware about my age ( ... )

It was a good time, for sure. I'll try and have the next installment up late tonight or early tomorrow. I just spent the last 8 hours in a car, so my brains are kind of scrambled.

LOL. I bought them at H&M a few weeks ago. I dropped by for a completely unrelated purchase and en route to the lingerie and hosiery section (to match an equally red dress for a cousin's wedding) I spotted them and thought, "Buffy red pants! They must be mine!"

Carefully scrutinizing that picture, however, it's fairly obvious I am several inches taller than SMG. The effect is a bit lost with good lighting, I'm afraid.

Oh, I'm so glad this worked for you. girlpire does amazing con reports every year for Dragon*Con, and I tried to model mine after her witty narratives. It took two days for me to write this part, so I probably won't get the chance to post Part II until tomorrow since I just spent the last 8 hours in a car and am suffereing from Scrambled Brain.
