Is it true that Data dies?

I read that recently, and I was really shocked -- not that it happened, but that it happened and MONTHS went by before I knew about it. I am so out of the loop.

Yes, its true. He pulls a Spock from "Wrath of Khan." Uses an emergency transporter to beam Picard out of harm's way then stay to destroy the big, bad ultimate weapon just in time to save the Enterprise and all aboard.

and I, likewise, was surprised that a) it took this long, not just for me, but for any of "our" trio to see it; and b) that I'd heard nothing about it Data's death.

But I'll tell you, they cheated. They found yet another pre-Data, pre-Lore, Soong android prototype, named B4. Data downloaded his memory into B4 early in the movie. Unfortunately B4's brain is not quite as sophisticated as Data's and he could not access most of his memories/knowledge. Nevertheless, they've laid the foundation to ressurect him, after a fashion.
