Myka jumps up when she hears the pounding and runs through the store to unlock and open the door, evading her justifiably concerned mother.

Claudia, for her part, is doing her best to be All Business. As weird as the situation is already, she figures that's the best chance of solving this as quickly as possible.
"Where's the notebook?"

Suiting words to actions, Myka begins to wend her way back to where the book is. Her mother is still calling her name, demanding answers, so Myka stops to give what little information she can.

"Mama, Mama, it's okay. This is Claudia, we work with her."

Her mother's look is not encouraging. "What is that?"

Shit. How do you explain goo to people who cannot know about goo? "That's..." Stall, Myka. What to tell her? It's looks like a freaking ice cream freezer and there's no way to justify that...
