Artie's office
Warehouse 13
South Dakota
Artie spotted Claudia a pair of goggles and what she can't help thinking of as Captain Hammer gloves before expecting her to fix up the High Voltage LEDs, so there's that, at least. And she can do it, but the system looks a lot different in person than it did when she was poking at it from across the state, so it's taking a lot longer than she'd like.
"Which one are you... is it that one?" she says to herself, trying to figure out the best place to start; if the sudden blast of sparks is any indication, she was dead wrong. "Whoa! Jeez - hey! Chill, Sparky!"
"So, um, how's it going?"
Claudia sighs; she feels like this would be going more smoothly if she didn't have Leena peering over her shoulder, and she's not sure she wants to have this conversation now. "You mean, are you scared I'm gonna burn the house down?" She pulls the goggles up to her forehead, and adds, "Emergency exits are clearly marked," in her best flight attendant impersonation.
"You think my concern for you is insincere?"
"I think you should pass me the cable shears. Those." She waves a hand at the cable shears in question, and Leena picks them up.
"So, anxious to get on with your life?"
Claudia snatches the cable shears out of Leena's hands. "Such shocking insight! Did my aura tell you that?"
"You're certainly pushing Joshua," Leena points out.
"Only because he needs it." And really, she gets that he hasn't been out in the world since the Clinton administration, but he deserves so much better than being eaten alive by the Internet.
When Leena doesn't say anything for a few seconds, Claudia looks at her, and rolls her eyes. "Oh, you do have a thing for him."
"You're changing the subject."
"You brought him up!" And she doesn't have time for this; she turns back to the LED display, and tries to go back to work.
Leena, unfortunately, fails to take the hint. "Now that you've saved him, your life's work is complete, and that scares you," she says, and Claudia pauses. "So you're forcing your own need for a purpose onto him."
"Genius, and all done without a couch. How much do I owe you, Dr. Freud?"
"If Joshua accomplishes great things, then your sacrifice is justified." That's a lot of crap; her sacrifice is justified anyway, Joshua's not stuck in limbo anymore. "But you're also afraid of being alone - truly alone."
...Okay, that hit a little too close to home. "It's okay if I don't like you, right?"
"Of course. But you do."
Claudia breaks her staring contest with the LEDs long enough to glare at Leena, who (apparently unflapped by anything) sits down. She puts the goggles back on and goes back to work, doing her best to ignore the audience she doesn't want.
