I just love this story, Claudia! And what a perfect description of what the Rangers are... "We are doing what we can, such as we can." And this is such wonderful imagery: But then he would smile, and his lips seemed shy from it, as if he had been out of practice from smiling. His eyes softened, though they never lost their noble steel.

Loving it!

Oh! Nice bit of dialogue, dear Person, and I can't work out (just yet) whether Halbarad is as taken with Frodo as the hobbit is with the man . . . but Halbarad reached suddenly and took Frodo’s hand in his, rubbing it between the two of his in a friendly fashion. That does sound very promising ;)

This is lovely, so far, Claudia. I love when a shadow of a canon character gets filled in so vividly. I can't wait to see what you do with this. And I love how they're both sort of keeping quiet, feeling each other out and stumbling over accidental insults. I look forward to more!

You know, I've always had a weakness for Halbarad. I think it's just because he's so mysterious and ranger-like and he doesn't get much stage time at all, does he?
