In the primaries of 2000, I did something that I had never done before and haven't done since: I voted for a Republican. I liked McCain. He seemed to be a (god, I hate to say it) Maverick and a good guy. I didn't like his party but I figured he was trying to keep it from going mondo conservative on us.

He didn't stand a chance.

Then in 2004, McCain started campaigning for Bush, a man who tried to portray him as a lunatic back in 2000. I lost a *lot* of respect for him then. And this campaign, McCain has sold his soul. He's used the same tricks he once complained about from Bush, caved in on his principles to woo the evangelical base and disappointed me greatly. I would have voted for Obama anyway -- I find him to be an inspirational figure -- but if the McCain of 2000 had won this election, I wouldn't be fearful. But I do fear the McCain of 2008.

And that's sad.

I voted. Have you?

I did, back on October 15th. I've known for a long time that Obama was the best man for the job so I voted for him then.

I'm hoping tomorrow that a majority of Americans feel the same way.

Gary, this is the best post you've ever written (in my opinion). I'm proud to know you.
