Buffy never really planned on the whole kids thing. Really, she spent most of her time trying not to think about kids. And then she met Kon, and Kon was paternal or maternal or whatever, but he just seemed to accumulate kids he took care of, and it seemed harder to not think about it. And it wasn't hope, exactly, it was just...nice. And she wanted it to keep being nice.

And really, with the amount of sex they were having, it would've been hard to not end up with a kid. Which isn't bad, because she gets to make jokes about mighty Krypton sperm, and Kon gives her dirty looks.

But there's also baby. Buffy likes having the baby around. She's sweet and cute and amazing and she looks a little like Buffy and a little like Kon, which is really really cool.

She has to go back to Sunnydale, of course, most nights, just to make sure nothing's wrong and the vampires get Slayed, but Kon takes care of Tana and it works. That's the part Buffy can't quite get. She's got a guy (she can't quite get to husband yet, because it's so weird), she's got a daughter, she's got a family.

When she gets home, Kon's curled up in a chair and Tana's sleeping on his chest, her thumb in her mouth.

Kon blearily opens his eyes. "Hey," he says, managing a grin.

"Long night?"

"I did fine," he scoffs.

"Uh huh."

"We had dinner and watched a movie."

"Very romantic."

Kon cradles Tana to him. "Guess she should get to real bed, huh?"

"Less warm, but also less cranky soreness in the morning, so I vote yeah."

Kon gets up carefully, trying not to stir her, and Buffy thinks that people keep having kids because guys who love kids are somehow more attractive than regular guys. And it helps that Kon's in his pajamas, which don't have a top and ride kind of low, but it's mainly that it's Kon and she's really really got it bad for him.

He sets Tana down and tucks her in, stroking her hair before turning to Buffy.

"You've got a look," he comments, slipping his arms around her.

"A look," she asks, trying not to immediately snuggle, because if anyone knew how soft the Slayer was, she'd probably get her ass kicked on principle.

"Happy family look," he says affectionately. "Like you like us."

"Of course I like you, dork."

"Love me."

"Love you. And love Tana."

He brushes her hair out of her face. "You could move in."

She looks away slightly. "Work."

He tightens his arms slightly. "I know. But...I miss you. Even if you get to stay four days it's..."

"Not enough," she says, finally leaning on him. "I know. But...I'm the Slayer. I have to take care of stuff."

"Yeah," he says. "I know. But."

"I love you. But I don't think Slayers get nice things. And you guys are a whole lot nicer than I ever thought I'd get."

Kon looks at her for a long minute, then takes her hand, pulls her out of Tana's rooms, pushes her against the wall, and kisses her.

Buffy can't really argue with that, even when he scoops her up and carries her to the bedroom, which she normally doesn't like cuz she's got legs for a reason.

"...I just want us to be home," Kon says, setting her down and staring at her for a long moment.

"Kon," says Buffy, just looking at him. "You're kidding, right?"

"Huh?"

"Sunnydale is Sunnydale. Metropolis is Metropolis. Nice in the spring. You're home. You've been home since camp."

Kon stares at her for a long minute.

"...What?" she asks.

"I'm home."

"Yeah. You and Tana."

"You love me."

"...I've been saying that for five years."

"Yeah, but."

Buffy pulls him down onto the bed. "Kon. I crossed dimensions, married you, and had your child and you're still not sold on the love thing just cuz I won't move in?"

Kon mutters something.

"Kon."

"You're Buffy," he says finally.

"Uh huh."

"You're beautiful."

"Uh huh."

"So maybe sometimes I don't--"

Buffy kisses him. "Kon. You're the best husband ever and if you don't stop getting dumb about it I'm gonna have to do something drastic."

"Drastic."

She flips them over so she's on top of him. "Drastic."

In the morning, Kon zombies a bottle to Tana while Buffy makes him coffee, and he kisses her on the cheek when she hands it over.

While Kon's off working and saving kittens and being generally upstanding, Buffy gets Bart to go back to Sunnydale and bring over the rest of her stuff while she takes care of Tana.

There are vampires and there are bad things, but Bart's bedtime is later so he can go back, but really, in the long run, life's too short.
