You're probably thinking of Spiral Scratch. If I remember right, it set up the ending so that Six was already very ill when the Rani attacked and that made him much more susceptible to regeneration.

They had about twice as many this time last year, then they took a bunch down. (The other Seven they had up was Ghost Light.)
