This is the second time in a row that the TARDIS materialized without the engine sound... Clearly, One had no qualms about using the blue boringers.
The creepy part of my brain is starting to understand why some people ship One/Barbara. Guys, please make the creepy part go away. Far away. I don't ship them, but I firmly believe Barbara is the one responsible for the Doctor falling in love with humanity the way he did so their gradually increasing (platonic) closeness makes me happy.
I dunno, feels more like a Magic School Bus episode to me. Which explains why so many people believe that bus is a TARDIS and that its driver (can't remember her name - it got changed in our version) is a Time Lady.
My version of this serial isn't missing anything. I have "omnibus" versions (i.e., official VHS releases where the opening and closing credits were cut in order to turn the serials into long-features) of other serials, however, and I don't remember any scenes besides the cliff-hanger repeats being excised in those. Odd...
Ms. Frizzle. Oh man, you could totally be right. She's certainly eccentric enough to be a renegade.
Well, like I said, the version I watched seems to be taken from a recording of a UK Gold airing, so it's quite possible that something went wrong with the VHS when the owner was transferring it to the computer. Or something. This is actually the only "omnibus" serial I've seen other than Curse of Fenric. While I like the idea, sometimes it actually makes me feel less like I'm watching Doctor Who.
I figured it was partly the insecticide, but I don't remember how much we knew about it at that point in the story.
Yeah, I don't seem to remember anything majorly adverse happening to the TARDIS that prevented them from leaving, but this is definitely the advent of One's general benevolence.
I'm ashamed of myself for repeatedly forgetting what great characters Ian and Barbara are, probably because most of my mind remains in the mindset that the Classic stories tend to be driven more by plot than character.
