I'm wondering, does anyone have any good/reliable resources (preferably online) or can anyone give me a brief run-down of what female literacy rates were like within the classical world (central and peripheral) among Roman citizens from about the 1st to the 3rd centuries A.D.? While that article has a good list of primary sources, I find it quite bizarre in its referencing primary and secondary materials as if they are of equal value...

How could we attain accurate indications of such rates? We would have to know the precise representativity of our extant body of texts.
