So, camping in Santa Barbara was fun in general. Lots of food and beer and a beautiful beach, and Mike's friends were fun. Also got to make s'mores, which makes any day better. Didn't take any pics, though I should have. Saturday we hung out on the beach for much of the afternoon and I got wicked sunburned ( Read more... )

what wax did you use? I know I've had a few clients who are allergic to some of the softer creme waxes.

Sally Hansen Microwaveable no-strips-needed kind.

Previously I've used Nads, which is sugar based and has never given me a problem. Now I'm afraid to ever wax anything again, which is unfortunate given my propensity to giant wooly eyebrows.

If you want to use a hard-wax (stripless), I suggest surgi-wax as far as the over-the-counter stuff goes. I get pro stuff, becuase I do this for my clients. With the stripless wax it is a bit harder to control, you want it less warm than you think it should be (usually), and you have to let it cool completely for it to come off in one piece. I know some hard waxes suck though, and the sally hansen may be one of them. Try the surgi-wax if you want a hard wax, or stick to sugaring. Sugaring is generally gentler on the skin anyhow.

I had no great desire for the hard wax specifically, it was just kind of what they had. If I ever wax again, it's back to the sugar stuff. It was much easier to control and much less painful. And didn't require a hospital visit.

Maybe the wax contains a shellfish product? You should totally sue, unless the box indicates in tiny letters that shellfish maybe in the mix. On the subject of eyebrow care, some of my Indian homeslices swear by the thread method, where a lady rips out the hair with thread or something.

i would love to try threading, and that'll probably be the only eyebrow maintainence that i do any time soon after this whole ordeal. just need to find somewhere that does it.

and seriously, i was like, "did i somhow rub a shrimp all over my face and just not realize it?"
