the house meme got me thinking...

...about my actual house. It's moving along. Jeremy is working *very* hard and I am amazed at how much two guys working in the cold, rain, and snow have accomplished in just a few weeks. Some pictures ( Read more... )

Yowza! I think I can sort of see how it's going to not look like an addition in the later shots... but mostly I'm thinking IT'S HUGE!

No, actually with today's weather, I'm thinking I'd rather appreciate having a garage again. (We've a one-car one, but I didn't clear it of the kids junk prior to winter because my van won't fit and Sweetie won't make the twists necessary to get his car in/out. Of course accessible junk does mean the boys were out playing hockey on the driveway today, which is something to be grateful for... I guess. Me, I stayed in and sipped cocoa.)

Yes, it is gigantic. The size was dictated by the size of a two-car garage. We did the bare, scraping minimum for that (it's gonna be tight getting cars in there) and then went up. It doesn't feel that big when you stand next to it and look in, but I know that is all an illusion.

Well clearly when you take the pictures with the addition in the foreground, it's going to look huge. (Which is why I think the later shots taken from the front/other side help me seeing the whole house and not just the addition.) Plus I remember from our own addition, that it won't seem as large once the walls are in, blocking line-of-sight through the whole process.

BTW, I don't envy your engineers the grading of that driveway!

Heh. The driveway is a bear no matter how you slice it. The former owners had it graded *perfectly* -- we have never once had any water in the house and everything drains extremely well. I *must* preserve that. We just hired a landscape architect/engineer to deal with it. The location of the driveway is gonna change entirely, with an entrance in a different spot from the road.
