Writer's Commentary

So, Maggie did commentary for her Britney fic, and I loved it so much, I thought I'd have a go at a serious commentary.

Just beautiful, Kate. And even more moving now that I go back and reread. I think the problem with reading online is that sometimes we'll read over things too fast, but a short story is all about the details, and this one is no exception.

Thank you, sweetie. I'm glad you like it (still)! :) Love the icon, btw.

Thank you. You don't know me, I'm just following one of minniem's "gah" links.

Thank you for making this public and making me cry. I'm not a huge Pharrell fan though I'm familiar with his music, N.E.R.D and Neptunes. But that's not what I loved about this story and commentary. Somehow you captured the theme of my life. I fully believe that greatness is cultivated over generations. That family creates layers of truth, acceptance and creativity. My place on this earth was never to change the world, just one life. My job was to create a safe environment where she could learn to understand her choices and their consequences, to allow her to be outrageous without society's contempt. If my child learns first to respect and second to question then I have accomplished my goal.

It's enough to be the one that believes.

Kate, this commentary is just as brilliant and moving as the story itself. For real. And I'm very, very glad you wrote it.

And it's funny that I went to use a music icon for this post, and found I barely had any. There's definitely something to the idea that a lot of the focus of fandom is on the celebrity.
