Today I welcome fellow author Josephine Myles, celebrating the release of her novel BARGING IN with a fun-packed blog tour around the net. Jo is a fellow Brit whom I had the pleasure of working closely with during the UK Meet in July - and whose fiction has a lovely blend of wit, attractive and sympathetic characters, great authenticity, ( Read more... )

As I have said before I spent many wonderful summers on the canal and being a child didn't have to worry about all the bad things it was just a great adventure. Like sunbathing on the roof and stopping at all the pubs on the way. I think it's something everyone should try in their life there is nothing quite like it. The sceney is spectacular. We were very lucky where I went to school because we also learnt to sail as part of our pe lessons and i love the water. It is something j really miss about where I live now. Even walking along the canal to school beings fond memories

I can't wait to read your book Jo and have dollars this blogspot because I can relate to alot of what u have talked about :-D

Hi Sarah - great to see you again :D

Sunbathing on the roof was fun, although liveaboard boat roofs do tend to be cluttered with too much stuff!

Hope you enjoy the book when you get a chance :)

Forgot to mention I dreamed about swans last night. ooooooh, premonition. A black swan and a white swan had gray babies. (which given all swan babies are gray probably is not that remarkable, but in my dream it was)

Heh, you don't HAVE to be sociable on the boats - it's just there if you want it :)

Wifi is definitely a problem, though. A lot of the time we couldn't get a decent mobile phone signal on the boat, and I'd often have to go outside to make a call. As for radio and tv signals? Forget it! In the towns, maybe, but not in the wilds.

We had to get rid of so much stuff when we moved on board. It was a really freeing experience :)

Now I know, really, that I'm the worst person in the world to even consider living on a narrowboat - I like my comforts! But you make it sound so enticing! :D

There are good points and bad points about the boating life, but it's definitely not for those addicted to their creature comforts. You wouldn't last five minutes, hon!

How can you say such a thing? I have been camping, you know!

Er, once. In the Guides. I hated it... ;)

Really fascinating blog post and the book looks delicious!

I just took a silk painting course from an artist who lives half the time in Canada and half the time sailing the South Seas. She's off soon to Fiji with engine parts to repair her boat.

Thanks Jan - that cover is particularly delicious, isn't it?!

Wow - sailing in the South Seas is whole different life to the canals here. I bet that's a wonderful experience.

It's good to have those memories of misty mornings and all the wildlife - the social life sounds good too! That all sounds fantastic.
A bath I can do without provided there is a small amount of water to wash in. Reduced space is ok. Even being cold and struggling with gas bottles. But the toilet facilities? No! That's just not me :D
We saw some young moorhen chicks this year along the canal this year. Even cuter than ducklings :)

The toilets are a sticking point with a lot of people. Oh, I could tell you some tales... ;)

Moorhens are lovely, aren't they? And I have a soft spot for cygnets, even if swans are a little scary.
