I forgot to answer the second part to this question. Yes and no. He was an ass. Though I get a little prickle of irritation when I think about it, I can see the humour. Sort of.

Oh, and after I gave birth -- many years after we had broken up -- he called to "congratulate" me and then starting going on about how I must have stretch marks, etc. I hung up on him and haven't heard from him since. Blech. Good riddance.

I don't think he was aiming to be nice. I think his intention was to wound. I was way beyond caring at that point -- and found it funny and pathetic.
