Ahh yes. Warm sound.

Due to recent emo, and general badness, I will attempt to counteract with pr0n.

Last night I picked up a secondhand Sony stereo from an eBay seller. I could have bought a swanky new freaking tiny one as is all the rage nowadays. But ( Read more... )

Something like this, you mean? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CLASSIC-SANSUI-AU-555-Integrated-Amplifier-NICE-/250629189815?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Electronics_Audio_Amplifiers&hash=item3a5aa9f0b7#ht_2065wt_1126

Yeah. I'm looking covetously at my dad's old dilapidated unit with the massive 70s speakers and "surround sound" speakers (which were little better than transistor radio speakers, really) every time I visit the olds. I used to play my guitar through that amplifier through the phono jack, and nearly killed it on a few occasions...but it's still going strong.

"Oh, I know the speakers are small, but look, it came with a sub! That's my bass right there!"

NNnnrrrgh. I guess midrange isn't important to them.

This is what I have hooked up to my computer: http://www.tascam.com/products/vl-x5.html

They look small on the website.. but they're deep, made from wood and weigh about 10kg each.

The speakers sitting in our lounge room are chinese knockoffs I picked up for $100 off ebay, hooked up to a fairly pedestrian sherwood amp. They're decently tall, could be bigger, and while the sound definition is poor they're good for a little bit of oomph. Fine for listening to music, TV, etc.

Every so often I'm tempted to go a bit further, but down that path lies snake oil and douchebaggery.

The fuck....?

I'm not tech savvy enough to know how that would work...but I have a feeling it'd be a poor substitute for the real thing.

Johnnycashjohnnycashjohnnycaaaaaash. He sounds delicious any time, but he really was made for vinyl.

(I admit to be uneducated in the art of sound making, and have gne digital vs vinyl, but still take great pleasure in a system large enough that you can actually feel the waves washing over you.)
