Word is this is either the second hottest or hottest day ever recorded in Melbourne. My sympathies mate.

thank god, man! We're in rural fucking rural pennslyvania for a family reunion of Ian's family where the "world news" consists of "big fucking fire in melborne, people dying, and now for a story about a local dog who can skate board!" I was worried! Now I feel silly : /

Hey love, thanks for your concern! Don't feel silly - i'd be scared too if I heard crappy news coverage of an impending disaster somewhere where I had friends or relatives...We're fine, the fires didn't come close to the centre of the city which is pretty much where we are. Other people in the rural areas and on the outskirts weren't so lucky, though.

So far the death toll's 150 people. It's pretty hard to take in...

Actually, no, not 150...108 (no idea where I got the previous figure from. Still, it's likely to get to that soon).

And the problem is that the fires are still going, and are in fact worse since a cool change and resulting wind change actually made the fires bigger.

And this is one of the reasons I don't want to live in the country.
