I think you'll probably end up having to sort of help it drop. Basically picking apart the stitches... my yarn was nice and smooth, and I had to take my needle and help it ladder down :)
Yahoo has a clapotis group and there is a data base of different yarns, needle-sizes, etc. You might want to join. I'm sure there will be information that'll help you a lot.
That yarn looks fine, though you may have to coax the stitches to drop. It's not a big deal. With size nines, you'll get a nice, wide stole/shawl size clap. It should be lovely. If you want it thinner, you can always leave out an increase section. Just remember to accomodate for that when you're doing your decreases.
I don't know how much bigger your clap will turn out, but it's probably not a big enough diff to worry about. If it worries you, you can leave out a repeat of the increase and the decrease sections. Also, when you get to the very middle of the straight rows section, you have half a finished Clap. At that point, you can decide whether you want to leave out or add a straight repeat, to adjust the length.
I used KnitPicks Andean Silk Twist (which isn't slubby but twisty), and I had to coax the sts to drop. You'll have to help yours along a bit, but I'm sure they'll still look great.
If you like how it looks so far, then it'll be fine.
It looks as if you will have to give it some loving for the stitches to drop. My yarn was the same way, by the end of it I whipped out a crochet hook and undid it that way. At the beginning I was all gung ho about pulling them apart and watching it slowly unravel but by the time you get to the middle section and you have a kazillion to unravel you begin to go "ugh" rather than "woo!" But it's SOOOOOO worth it.
