I may just be over thinking this one but I figured it's best to ask than to pass it up and miss out on some interesting fact or relevance to the story....
I know a Kuwahara Jewelry Store exist in the Niigata prefecture. I can't find one with this name in Tokyo but it's possible there was one and now it doesn't exist anymore. Also there's a Dipper Dan shop inside the World Import Mart... but I couldn't find the Kuwahara part anywhere... However it seems to a rather common surname...
Of course it becomes odd they used a dairy company with the same name... so it could be there's some meaning beind the use of that name. As far as I know/remember there's no one named as such in the Shoten stories or other short stories they wrote so I don't think it could be a 'crossover' homage like calling Duklyon the Angelic Layer's fast food. It could be an homage to Rokuro "Bob" Kuwahara a Japanese-born animator best known for his work with Walt Disney and Terrytoons between the 1930s and 1960s. However I've no idea if CLAMP knew about him since he worked in America and his works are much older than 20 Menso.
Actually, you've been entirely helpful so thank you for responding. Aside from now considering the possibility of a slight distinction for the name/title, you just made me realize that I've never looked into Ranpo's stories for a Kuwahara.
I never thought about Rokuro Kuwahara being tied in, but it's an interesting idea and I'll keep it in mind.
Thank you again! Though not giving me a direct answer, you've certainly provided me with more areas to further my search.
