Thanks so much for your kind words, teddy. I don't write very much these days, so I'm lapping up the generous feedback I received from the Exchange comments. I'm fairly pleased with my skills as a writer, but a lot of my fare has been rarepairs, never seeing a lot of exposure, and thus not too many reviews.
As for polishing off those other stories, it's a matter of finding time to write and some inspiration for the muse. With the Exchange, I'd been dreaming of participating for a long time, and I was so motivated when the opportunity arose this year. For that particular prompt, the story really wrote itself, but the time consuming part was all the research that went into it and the emotional aspect. I've a dab hand for writing humor and action, but giving it all depth and meaning slows me down.
The Exchange fic writing process was surreal for me because I was crafting a broad comedy -- almost farcical -- while my father was dying. It was strange beyond belief, but the humor kept me going when I was feeling blue.
i think it tells me all i need to know about the sick:well ratio of my brain that when i first read this post i thought, how come she didn't ask me to read it?! and then i remembered i had, lol - well, when you pointed it out in the acknowledgments. *laughs at self* despite my short-term memory loss, it was a genuine pleasure reading your story. it feels like a lifetime ago, to be honest - does it feel that way to you, too? a lot of water has passed under the bridge for both of us since then.
*hugs with head carefully pointed away so as to prevent germ-jumping*
*accepts hug and douses us both with antibacterial spray* LOL, indeed! You started reading it back in mid-June and we didn't finish the edit process until mid-August. That was, it seems, a lifetime ago, what with all that's happened for us both this year.
I'm confident my SPaG is 99% squeaky clean, but when you beta read for me, I'm assured a highly tuned, finely polished piece at the end of the day. The research was a bit laborious, but this story was relatively easy to write, despite the difficult personal period in which it was created.
I'm really pleased you enjoyed it. With any luck, I'll have something for you to read in the coming weeks... I don't know when I'll get around to finishing my SS/HG WIP, but you can be assured, I'll depend on you for that expert touch in editing.
Thanks, droxy. I'm really glad you liked it! Despite the turmoil in my life during the writing process, it was relatively easy and fun to write... not too much wibbling, if memory serves.
With regards to WIPs, some are more likely to be finished than others. The one I'm still writing for morethanmolly deserves to be completed... if I can find the time to research and the inspiration to write. I had plans for an epic length fic, but what already exists of it needs a major overhaul, considering I know so much more about writing now compared to when I began the piece. It remains on the archives untouched as a cautionary tale: kids, don't write like this. If I have the time and the inclination, it will be done, but I don't feel so driven now that I have one complete multi-chaptered story under my belt.

Yep, gotta whip that HRD puppy into shape, or rather whip my muse into submission so I'll have a desire to write. ;)
