A little picspam (God of War, ep. 13)

I've been wanting to do this forever, and ep. 13 seemed like a perfect opportunity to do so, as Kim Joon took a step back for the rest of the cast to shine a little. I LOVE the cast of God of War. I've always had a fondness for ensemble efforts, and this production is not only one of the best in recent memory, it's also one of the most refreshing. ( Read more... )

Someone else said, "If it's a saeguk, there is torture." The sadism in Eps. 1 through 6 repelled me, but that's what fastforward is for. Since I wanted to know more about the warrior monks and Buddism in ancient Asia, I kept watching. GoW is an evolving, very good historical. I agree; the acting by all the actors is superb. It's a pleasure watching Gim Jun jump into action with the other warriors.
The early eps. originate the geneses of all the action which the viewers need to follow, especially saeguks. Little things mean a lot: a small prop, a brief mention, or a casual action all return in later eps. to explode or propel the story. I'm rewatching GoW with good subtitles and the details make it a new, meatier drama. Whenever a character says he will definitely execute a move, I wait for the opposite to happen.
What exactly was Gim Jun's strategy?

Sadistic would be to enjoy the tortures and cruelty inflicted on Kim Joon, Wol-A or any of the innocent victims, and I don't think any one of us did, least of all the PD, the writer, the actors involved with this production. And compared to, say, Spartacus (the cable series, not the film), GoW kept the graphic details to minimum. But the depiction needed to be realistic enough not only to convey the horrors of slavery but also to emphasize the desperation Kim Joon faced before his stark choices. If sadism is in reference to the sight of the spectators cheering in the arena, that's not a sign the drama makers condone it, that's just how it was.

What exactly was Gim Jun's strategy?

Basically to turn the tables on Choi Hyang by using his lackeys. He said Choi Woo's situation reminded him of the dilemma Li Shimin (later Emperor Taizong of the Tang dynasty) faced with his own brothers, who were trying to remove him. (One of the books he was reading in the temple was Zhenguan Zhengyao/貞觀政要, which is an account of Taizong's reign.) So ( ... )

I appreciate your reply, thank you. Spartacus gushed enough blood and broken bones to earn an overly violent rating. It became boring fast and I saw only 2 episodes. The current contender for needless brutality, Game of Thrones, ameliorates the spilled guts with a fantastic setting and almost graphic pornography, not that American soaps have not tried to reach that level ( ... )

I couldn't agree with you more, Luvcostums. Spartacus gushed so much blood that I couldn't even get past the trailer(s). At the outset, Game of Thrones (GoT) certainly had all the making of a great TV show. It has and continues to have extremely high production values. In my experience however, the depiction of so much graphic nudity and sex scenes in GoT have been quite distracting, making the entire show rather pedestrian (no offense to GoT fans reading this ( ... )
