Elena looked up from her coffee as the car whipped into the parking lot. Isn't that...? Then she spotted the guy who got out of the car - that shockingly red hair was unmistakable. Reno. I thought so. And here I was having a peaceful night.

She barely looked up from her coffee as he walked through the door, watching him through her eyelashes. It was almost closing time, and she was pretty sure he was aware of that and trying to scoot in just under the wire. "Hey. They're closing."

Reno hopped up on the curb and turned toward Elena, "Oh dammit." He opened the door quickly and peeked in and winked at the counter girl, she smiled at him and Reno knew that he was in. He leaned outside to Elena and smiled, "Hey, stay there for a sec." He popped back inside and said loudly to the counter girl, "Hey can you make me a Grande Gingerbread Latte? Thanks Doll!" He winked at her again and peaked back out to Elena.

"What brings you out here so late? It's almost midnight. Don't you have school in the morning young lady?" he smirked.

"I live here," she said, deadpan, exactly what she had said to Axl the other day when he asked her the same question. Well, it hadn't been so late then, but still... "And you're my age anyway." She tapped her fingers on the half-empty carton of cigarettes sitting next to her elbow - the cigarettes missing from the pack were stubbed out in the ashtray, already smoked, except for the lit one dwindling between her fingers. There were two coffee cups on the table in front of her, both empty.

She had plainly been here for hours.

The lady at the counter came shuffling through the store holding Reno's coffee, she handed it to him smiling telling him it was free of charge. Reno winked at her and took a sip, still hot enough to burn his tounge but it was just too goo not to drink. Reno swallowed, "ahhh, best coffee in town." He stood there for a second looking at Elena and pondering to himself. He reached in his jacket pocket and pulled out a cigarette and lit it. He leaned against the wall and took a drag, "So what are your plans for this weekend?"

Elena knew better than to floor it right out of the light - her tires were expensive, dammit - but she still reached sixty in an impressively short amount of time, and continued edging the speed up as the night swallowed their starting line. The light up ahead turned yellow.

"Fuck it!" Elena shouted to the night, and now the pedal went to the floor and the car shot through the intersection.

The two cars seemed to stay parallel to each other, Reno easily kept close to Elena. He sang along as loud as he could with the Paul, as if he wrote the song. She started to take the lead when Reno went to grab another cigarette, he had become full of himself for a moment and was about 5 feet behind her. He quickly lit his cigarette and drove with his knee. He wasn't about to lose to her.

Elena let up on the pedal a little when she saw him falling behind, not wanting to push her engine too hard if he was just going to lag back anyway. Holding the car at a steady 90, both hands on the wheel, her hair whipping in her face and Heart blaring in her ears. At this point, it didn't even matter if she won, except it did. She glanced in the mirror.

Reno looked down at his speed, 92, he was gaining on Elena and just a little further and he could take the lead. They both promised no tricks, just speed. His accelerator was already slammed onto the floor, come on, he thought, just a little further. He took a quick drag and the song changed to Chop Suey, every white blooded american boy that liked explosives favorite song.
