That's the problem with the presidential debates, as well. *lol*  I was really looking forward to seeing the Doctor Who episode, "The Fires of Pompeii", again on CBC tonight, but it looks like I'll be watching the presidential nominees debate after all.

I understand that ( Read more... )

Yeah I hope they have taken a long look at this bailout plan and know what they are doing. *sigh*

Yeah Palin is not coming across good. I don't think she is unintelligent just not prepared to be vice president.

Me, too! I don't have an opinion on what should be done because I don't understand it well enough - all the arguments I've heard on all sides make some kind of sense to me. But, I do want all the members of Congress to make an informed decision based on what the experts have said and move forward with a plan, even if that plan is to just do nothing. If they decide against any kind of bailout in the end, that's ok as long as long as they're informed enough to understand the likely ramifications and feel that's a better outcome than the likely ramifications of a bailout.

Personally, I'd like the whole Congress to stop and think and get this done correctly and responsibly, rather than shoddily and quickly and just so they can look pro-active.

(Because if they'd been truly being pro-active about this, they would have stepped in 6 months ago and done something about these mortgage-backed securities then.)

Yes, I agree. Although, I thought the reason to get this done shoddily and quickly was so that they (all the House Representatives and many Senators) could recess and spend the next 5 weeks campaigning for re-election. :-/

Though, I heard commentary on NPR's "Marketplace" show yesterday that they may have a few weeks to come up with a plan, but not months.

If I learn that the Senate is continuing to negotiate and debate the package while they're not at the Senate to do their jobs, I'll be more disappointed in both of them.

Don't be too disappointed -- neither of them are on the appropriate committees. Harry Reid was quite clear that he doesn't want either of them there.

So, is it only the committees that are meeting, then? Not the whole Senate? I still think it was good for them both to take some part in this process, since one of them will be inheriting the problem in a few months.

Actually, since neither McCain nor Obama will be giving up his Senate seat (nor will Biden) unless he wins the Presidential Election, they'll both still have to deal with whatever the aftermath is in January.

That's true, although it's quite possible that the next President will be defined by the aftermath of what happens with it now. Interesting that one of the first questions at the debate last night was basically about how this bailout might change their potential presidencies because the money for it will have to come from somewhere - a question that neither one of them really answered.

It seems McCain may have lost a small yet vital demographic with his decision to show up at the debate after all, LOL...Dr. Who fans!

Yes. *lol* Fortunately for him, though, most of the Doctor Who fans who want to be watching it on CBC are Canadian and can't vote here anyway. ;-)

Oh, Canadians. If the CBC website is any indication, he had no chance with 'em anyway.
