Turning Left

Orkney is a very quiet place, so I thought I'd take this opportunity of having an early night back in the hotel room to post about my trip, so far. After 12 hours of traveling, I arrived in Edinburgh early on Saturday morning, where I was to meet alisel_kat at the hotel. Her flight was coming in several hours later, though, so I took a nap for an ( Read more... )

Yeah, I did find that comment in 'Fires of Pompey' to be rather odd. And I think someone comments about it again in the next episode, although I can't entirly remember. /youtube cheating ( ... )

I think watching Turn Left on Youtube was the best bet, as they pretty much cut out my favorite part of Turn Left on SciFi. It was the part where they take the family Donna has been living with away.

I can't believe they would cut that out! It was such an important moment! Stupid SciFi!

It did pull me out of the show for a moment, though, because it's so horrible that I stopped being engaged and pulled back to say, "But they wouldn't really do that in England. The outcry against it would be too strong."

I thought that was a bit weird, too. I could see them being deported, but going to a "labor camp"?

I also thought I read somewhere something about people thinking this episode was racist against some Asian group (Japanese?), but now I can't find it. I didn't really read it at the time because I didn't want to read any spoilers about the episode.

I swear, the Sci-Fi Channel picks the worst place for commercials! *eye roll*

Neat to hear about your trip and see photos.

I forgot to watch Dr. Who, so I, too, watched it on YouTube.

That thing on her back really creeped me out. I have a bug phobia as it is, but giant bugs attached to you that you can't see that are changing your life? That's enough to give me nightmares.

Yeah, Rose's knowledge and presence didn't make a whole lot of sense.

That's interesting what the Doctor was saying at the end about the coincidences around Donna.

Does the Bad Wolf stuff indicate that there's another level of meaning to "Bad Wolf" that's still being revealed?

Yeah, that was really interesting. I'd noticed all those things, of course, but they didn't strike me as strange - I guess I figured that a certain number of coincidences were necessary for these stories to be told...

That would be interesting! It may just have been a warning from Rose to the Doctor, though, that she knew he would understand. Still, how did she change even the TARDIS to say "Bad Wolf"? Obviously, that was new and not something done at the time she scattered the words "Bad Wolf" through space and time.

Rose became one with the TARDIS, so that might be the easiest of the things she did there.

Rose didn't really work for me in this episode, either, although I must admit I've never been a huge fan of Rose. I think there's something about Billie Piper that just rubs me the wrong way. Wish somebody had turned left in Casting and gone with Georgia Moffett instead.

I don't see how Rose could have done it while she was connected with the tardis in "The Parting of the Ways", though, because the Doctor has been traveling I-don't-know-how-long since then and the tardis had never said "bad wolf" instead of "police" on it before.

In general, I like Rose quite a bit. I think I got what the Doctor saw in her and could appreciate that, too. That's why I was so surprised that she didn't work for me in this episode. I liked Georgia Moffet, too, though. Hopefully, she'll be back as Jenny in a future episode.

Odd. Can you personalize ads to this extent? As I'm typing this the ads on your lj are telling me to get Dr. Who ringtones!

Yes, I think the Ads are personalized according to the interests you list in your profile, but also that questionnaire you fill out when you first come to LJ.

I think LJ personalizes them for you...(in other words, advertisers pay to be put on blogs where certain key words are used).

Yeah, I suspect that it has to do with the tags used.
