Last night I was chatting with a friend about cross walks. She was pointing out that obeying cross walks is a part of the social contract. We can tell cars not to run red lights because we wait for the walk signal ( Read more... )

I thought it was because you were raised in Ann Arbor where "pedestrians have the right of way" is taken literally and everybody is like, "what crosswalk? we just go where and when we want to. drivers beware." That happens when there are many more people than there are cars (and even less parking spots).
