On writing and syntax

The point of the previous sentences wasn't a question of which (if any) versions sound best. I wouldn't use any of them in anything I wrote. The question involves what can be taken out and still keep the sentence acceptable. When you spend as much time poking and prodding at sentences to figure out the limits, sometimes it puts your own ( Read more... )

I don't know yet if I am doing Nano or not. I'm getting in anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 words each week, and I don't want to stop either story for a significant period of time. (As it stands, each chapter comes out two weeks or so from the previous one. By Gaslight is too much fun not to write, and Strange Angels is finally hitting its stride, IMHO.)

But I am rereading your Nano from before, and editing it. ;-P

I am not much for fiction writing. Non-fiction would be a breeze.

I don't have a single idea for this year. A colleague at work who does NaNo passed along a Mad Libs-like meme in which you fill in the blanks of the plot by shuffling your mp3 playlist and inserting the first n song titles. I may have to do that, in desperation. *chuckle*

I go to the Nano forums and read the dare threads for inspiration.
