So, after a couple years of CoH, I finally broke down and picked up CoV a few months back. Have been having fun with an electric space lizard brute and a thug mastermind since then.

But now that there's a big holiday event on, it occurs to me that I never created a badge-collecting bad guy. This is clearly a stain on my altoholic soul.

I'd actually be inclined to suggest an Energy Melee/Energy Aura Brute, although I may be a trifle biased given that I wrote a guide for one and my sole level 50 villain at the moment is one. They're considerably more forgiving of mistakes than Stalkers, who will die at the drop of a hat, and they also come with a quite good built-in stealth option (though it comes later in life than the Stalker's, of course). Give 'em superspeed for the PVE stealth stacking and you've got a speed-levelling demon. (Make up for the fact superspeed has no vertical component by getting the Good vs. Evil pack, it's only $10 and comes with two of the most useful powers EVER.)

Here's the I7 edition of my guide; I'll be doing an I8 one soon. The only major changes will be a brief mention of what veteran powers to take (I lean toward Sands of Mu and Nemesis Staff).

What powers are those?

Clarification: Jump pack is 30 seconds, with a 150 second recharge that starts at toggleoff.

The most important part of a badgewhore character is that you actually ENJOY playing them, because you're going to be playing them a lot. I also wouldn't worry too much about missing event badges, as they normally seem to run holiday events every year, or every other year, so, if you stick around long enough, you'll be able to get them.

And don't worry so much about having to get badges. Badges are what you normally do on your L50 once you've finished everything, or when you're fairly high level and you don't want to do yet another Longbow/Malta mission. Just let them come, and you'll start pulling them in fairly regularly.

Well, yeah. If I found out I wasn't enjoying it, I'd give up and reroll something else. But I do love me some alts. And there's something to be said for having a character at level 20 with almost 100 badges.

a Stalker would be very good at getting the badges, though if you don't enjoy a stalker, it may not be for you. But my Stalker ended up being my villain side badge whore, and there are some definite advantages... because you get Hide from level 1, you can skip unneeded XP to make sure you get all those tasty mission badges in the lower levels, and wander around very dangerous places for exploration badges. You are relatively safe in PvP zones compared to other AT's, even if you do not want to PvP yourself. They solo missions quickly and easily, despite what some people may say, so you can follow clues and whatnot without holding up a team. And can solo the Warburg missile launch very easily for Rocketman.

I've heard a Dom with confuse powers (like a Plant dom) are also good, since they can also control how much XP they get.

Well you see, badges remind me of Boy Scouts, so collecting them seems about as villainous to me as helping old ladies across the street. Consequently, my villains never go out of their way to get a badge.

But if I were going to collect badges with one villain (and I very well might, eventually), it'd be with my Merc Mastermind, who is some ill-defined-as-of-yet kind of former military person turned intelligence agent. The military angle is a convenient loophole in my reasoning.

The Boy Scouts give badges for releasing highly contagious viral agents into the population, or doing hit jobs for the mob? Cool!

I'll second robotech_master's Energy/Energy Brute suggestion. My main villain and badge hunter is a level 50 Energy/Energy Brute, and like the man said they level very quickly and the Energy Cloak + Super Speed combo will let you go pretty much anywhere you want, and fast. And I agree, you definitely want to shell out the ten bucks for the GvE goodies.

By the way, if you haven't settled on a server and SG for this new character, may I plug recommend Infinity and the Pentacle Coalition? We're a Coalition of five villainous supergroups, each one made up entirely of a single AT. The groups are almost entirely LJ users and it's a fairly active, but casual group. Check out the FAQ at cov_pentacle if it sounds like something you might be interested in and look me up if you'd like an invite!

Heh, thanks for the offer, but I stick mostly to Virtue and Victory.
