Vote on Consolidation of the communities

Aug 02, 2011 23:18

So, the mods have been mulling this over a while, and we believe it's time to bring the issue up and get community input.

The CityofVillains community sees less and less use as time goes on, and even the last handful of co-op events haven't seen any crossposting ( Read more... )

I know it hasn't been active for some time, but the content of city_of_trading is so specific that I would really prefer to keep that one separate. One main reason is that I follow the RSS feed of city_of_heroes on my phone, but I wouldn't ever want to see trading requests on my phone where I'm in no position to check my in-game inventory.

However, I am in favor of consolidating the other two communities (villains, fans) with this one.

This will be kept in mind when the call is made, but I have a feeling that you will only see an occasional trading request regardless.

That's my feeling as well. In general, the Market works so well in game that it's extremely inefficient to try to trade on an LJ community. Even for items that tend to sell off-market, the more efficient option is to use the Market section of the official forums.

Trading posts will probably still happen (like mine a few posts back) but I can't see them being frequent at all.

What about 'City Of Architects'? When that was created, we all believed it would be very busy - but it too has become moribund.

If the Architects community wants to consolidate into this one it can be arranged. But as with trading and fans, the mods here have no say over it.

I was just curious why it wasn't included in the plans the way fans and trading were - even though the mods have say there either.

I'd forgotten about the coh_ma community; I never posted there or paid much attention, unfortunately. I might have forgotten about the city_of_trading community had Quas not recently posed a wishlist here.

Late to the conversation, but I figure I'll leave my 2 cents. =)

I always thought it was redundant to have more than one community, and I think the fear that there will be more content/posts is unfounded. (One post in the consolidated community instead of all the cross-posting seems like *less* posts to wade through... or did I miss something in math class?)

I do think it's a good idea to *strongly* encourage the use of cuts and tags.

There hasn't been any crossposting, as stated in the OP.

I only watch c_o_h, deliberately, so *any* posts that would go in the other communities is more posts.

Then I can understand that in your case, it would mean more posts to read. I would venture to guess, however, that the majority of the community's members watch multiple City communities.

As someone who *does* watch multiple City communities it would be less posts for me to read, as there are still occasional cross-posts.
