CoH SG Base Tour: West Coast Defenders

Jan 30, 2010 12:44

I made a illustrated tour of my base.  I'll hide most of it under the cut, but here is the map.
We have ALL 22 teleport beacons and the base is Raid Capable (6 anchors, raid teleporter, mission computer, vault w/ item of power holder).

Honestly, while an impressive base, I've found that a smaller one is better for raiding. A large base is just asking for trouble when it comes to being Pylon'd under the radar.

I'd also probably link up rooms D and N up for ease of getting around, if you've got some guys in N/O/P messing stuff up and you're all up in C/D it'll take a while for you to get round there.

Actually, I have a spare door way I put there for linking D/N. I leave it out for cosmetic reasons.

When I built it I did not understand that my main problems will be A: Defending against Pylons, or B: Protecting the Anchors. Well, I knew the Anchors need to be concealed, but I thought the main goal was to seize the item of power directly, after killing the base power plant and control.
So while its raid-capable its not raid optimal. And really, a lot of the extremes you can go to make the base unfriendly to general use. Considering how infrequently I have had a base raid (read-NEVER) I wanted to make sure I had the main reasons for having a base covered.

Not that you have any reason to worry about base raids currently (they are completely disabled) or anytime in the near future (they have to completely rewrite the trial involved before re-implementing them).

Anchors and other base items are pretty damn solid when it comes to taking damage these days (or at least last time I did it) unless there's an inordinate amount of debuffers stacking on it. The main worry's Pylon's as that's quick and can be done in the background by one or two guys slipping out the main blob of combat.

Shame they're disabled, base raids where fun. :(

I know mine was deleted because it was the first reply.

Sure I did. Trying to keep the discussion on topic. After the image was resized there's no reason to keep a request to shrink it. I hate digging through a half dozen messages about icons, spelling, etc to get to the pertinent comments. Don't like it? Find a grammar blog.

I like what you've done with this base. Every room has something neat (like the tiles under the empowerment stations, just to name one example). It shows a lot of care overall, and you present it well in the screenshots.

Also, props for a character illustration clearly sourced from the old Champions character sheet(s). :)

Good eye there!
Spectrum was my second champs character I created. I went on to write about him in a shared-universe humor/fiction site called "Superguy". First on the mailing list then later on a newfangled thing called the world wide web. The West Coast Defenders recently hit episode 50 -- over 15 years for me writing about him, Foxy, British Airwave, the Nikon Ninja, and others. I was on the original beta for CoH; so thrilled at the chance to RP a lot of the characters I wrote about.

I'm passingly aware of Superguy, though I've never read any of it.

My very first "real" character (not counting ones I just threw together to try out the tutorial) was based on a Champs character I made almost ten years ago (fifteen, now). The Force Field/Energy Blast powersets for defenders fit her perfectly. Naturally she evolved in different directions within this game, which I see as a good thing.
