Blaster Build Question

Feb 09, 2009 12:50

I've been looking at respecing my main for a bit now and I was wondering if anybody would be interested in taking a look at my build and make suggestions on whether I should change anything. I know I'd like to have max flight speed but at this moment I'm not sure if I've done that or not and what I need to change to get it if I haven't.

Anyhow, ( here's the mids screen: )

archetype: blaster, builds, respec

Are you sure that's a blaster, not some flavor of villain? Because I'm thinking you've gotta knock over a series of banks to afford all of those six-slotted sets...

I'm not really worried about the cost since she helps the SG with farms and I've never bothered to buy anything in the past, I've just used what dropped. How much do you think it will all cost?

I'm not the expert on markets and IOs and crafting, but some of those unique IOs will set you back tens of millions. Each. And that's whether you buy them outright or craft... while some of the crafting ingredients could also cost you millions.

I think 68 million, nearly 69, should get me there or at least most of the way ... if not then I guess I'll just have to earn it.

1 Slotted swift + 2 1/2 Fly Enhancements level 35+ will either get you to the fly speed cap or within about 2 miles of it. Using all 50s, for sure. Lots of wasted slots there.

Also, if you're going to ask for build advice, it's best to export the build using LiveJournal HTML and paste it under a cut (or at least the exportable data chunk) so people can load it in their own copies of Mids and see what you've actually got going on.

I wasn't aware that I could do that (exporting to LJ HTML) so I updated it with that information. Thank you for letting me know about it. Generally the numbers aspect of the game are over my head so this is the first time I've looked at Mids.

I see the update... you still need to add the "exportable data" chunk. It's a paragraph of gibberish that is actually your save file in text form, so it can be copied and loaded into Mids, complete with enhancement levels.

Sorry, I think I've got it this time. Thank you for being patient with me.

Blazing Aura instead of hot feet? Seriously?

They do about the same damage, but hot feet has a MUCH wider radius and also slows and fears people. In herostats I got something like six times as much damage out of it as from blazing aura (my /fire blaster has both).

And Team Teleport is a kind of iffy power, unless you have something in particular in mind for it.

I have hot feet now but can never use it since I am rarely on the ground.

I want Team Teleport since I use Hest for all the high level stuff with my super group and it's good for getting the team together when we need it.

Another FYI: Team Teleport isn't a "Recall everyone to me". It teleports everything within a certain radius of you to the targeting reticule.

This I did know, though I may see about putting slots there to add range. Generally when it would be helpful we're all close enough for regular TP but spread in different directions.

Just curious, but do you know about ED?

Actually no, thank you for pointing me to it. I'll have to get Mr to look at it and see if he can explain it to me. I really don't understand numbers ... I guess most of this is just over my head. :(

Let me give you the simple rundown of ED: Once you're using SOs or comparable enhancements (generic IOs of level 25+ and multipart set IOs of 22+) don't slot more than 2 1/2 to at most 3 of any one aspect. When the enhancements are on the low end, like level 25 generic IOs, you want to go with 3 (92%); when they're on the high end, 2 1/2. Some people even stop at 2 slots if they're using generic level 50 IOs; two of those and a 3-part set piece actually gets you 100%.

Two and a half to three: that is ALL there is to it.

Really? Awesome.

Thank you so much, this will be helpful for when Mr and I sit down to run the numbers on what stats I would like where and how to best achieve them.

Those are a lot of really nice sets, but you've six slotted a lot of sets when I'm not sure you need or want to.

The purposes of sets are really for the set bonuses. Slot X amount of Y Set into one power, and you get Z bonuses. For example, 2 Thunderstrikes will get you a recovery bonus. The other bonuses are mostly decent, but I could instead slot 4 Decimations n the same power, and get the Health and Endurance bonus out of those six slots.

When I work on set bonuses, I look at things I want to improve on the character that they may still be having problems with at 50. For my Fire/Fire Tanker, it was +Recovery/Endurance, +Regeneration/Health, and +Accuracy. She'd still constantly run out of juice in a medium-to-long fight, and whiffed a lot which was a problem for soloing. Because she's a Tanker, and lacks a lot of the defenses of other Tank sets, I also wanted to look at her Regeneration for faster healing.

I went through all of her powers and the sets they took. Then I went through those sets, and found out how many of ( ... )

Yeah, I forget which set (Apocalypse?) has the +regen set bonus for 2 in the same power. I was wondering if I wanted to split this into three pairs....

Also, if no sets have good bonuses for a power, Hamidon origin enhancements are something to consider.

The Pet set Brilliant Leadership has a 4% +Regen at 2 slots. I slotted the +ACC and +DMG pieces in all three tiers of my pets.

With purples, you can slot only one of each enh. And Apocalypse has +16% regen for a pair. So three pairs gives you +48% regen, all bypassing ED.
