If nothing else, the egoboo someone gets when you say, "Hey, I did a (whatever) Task Force with you on (your alt)" to them is worth it. Makes 'em feel important, and they'll be more apt to listen to you when you issue orders to your team. :)
Yeah, those have been a godsend for me. I've avoided many crap situations., simply by seeing 'oh, that guy got rated low by me at some point in the past...*clickclick*...ah, i see he's a "run off then complain at dying" jerk.'
I tend to rate an average player at three. Four means "OK, good player, will team again happily", 2 for "hmm, well, OK, not the smartest, but didn't hate them", and one for "oh, fuck no, never again". 5, I save for close friends or "damn, this person was smart, funny, and interesting."
The comments I write end up being things like, "tirelessly spams emotes, particularly in combinations that produce crude and offensive results", or "is very insistent in advancing his theories, but appears to only possess a vague understanding of how the game operates", so there is also the amusement value of going, "oh, heyyyy... it's -that- guy!" as I avoid them. :3
Well, I didn't want to say anything, but of course that first one was about you and the second was about Liz (I, um... I changed the gender to be secretive, you see). :-P
I've been doing that a lot more, but '3' is my usual rating. 2's and 1's aren't good, 4's are competent -and- fun to play with, and a 5 is someone whom I will drop from a PUG to run with if they ask. ^_^
Oh man...is there a way to read notes other players have left you? It'd be cool to read what other players say about you and improve anything if needed.
Agreed completely! You can just imagine how useless they'd be eventually if you had a group going around 1-starring everybody and tagging them with rude reference notes just for S&G... which you know would be happening if everybody could see everybody else's player notes.
It's too bad that I play with the same half dozen people. Then again, I enjoy looking around on every team and seeing nothing but full star ratings above everyone.

But that may just be a result of my team leadership. :)
