Ghost Towns

This DXP weekend brought something to light for me. Since the character transfers were implimented, a lot of the servers are ghost towns and this appeared to be especially noticable (at least to me) this event. I'm wondering should the Dev's consider merging some of the servers. I know some player like low server populations -- at time I do as ( Read more... )

I don't understand why people want to transfer characters anyway... It's not as if it's that difficult to make a new character and just get SKed by your friends on another server if you want to jump over to play with someone...

It's all data and scripts... but people still feel it's not really "THE SAME."

It's not rational, but it's like me HAVING to kill that stupid mob last night that just pissed me off - even though I know it's only a script and pixels...

There are lots of reasons to transfer. Your comment assumes that the only reason is to play with someone in particular on a different server, but that's not the only reason at all ( ... )

I made a lot of my transfers when I decided to start organizing my characters. I started on Pinnacle way, way back but over time I built up a lot of alts, all over the place. My current set up is:

Pinnacle - RPG hero remakes (characters I've played in a table-top game like MnM, Marvel SAGA or Gurps)
Guardian - hero ideas (if a set combo seems interesting, I build it here)
Victory - villains (here are new ideas and my "Elseworlds", villainous versions of RPG remakes)
Pinnacle and Guardian are full and I'll need a second villain server soon. I just placed my last two slots here in anticipation of unlocking VEATs.

Having started so long ago, I also have toons that I've never really played but I dread deleting because they have once-in-a-lifetime badges like Celebrant &/or Reveler. Can't recall which server I've tucked these guys away on.

Hmm. Definitely different than what I saw. This is the first time I've ever seen Guardian be yellow and I was pestered with teaming on Champion (blueside) and even found a decent team on there.

Those are the servers that I've considered transferring off of just because I haven't been able to team...

Guardian is my home server, and I usually play on that server during XP weekends. I wasn't able to get on a team or form a team for that matter yesterday.

Possibly the difference was redside vs. blueside. I had no problems with teaming yesterday redside. This is with a level 44 stone/fire brute.

Guardian is my home server as well. (We should hook up for some teamage!) I was able to play for a total of about six hours-ish Fri-Sun; I ran with SG/Coalition team twice and two 7-man PuGs.

I'm really sorry you weren't able to take max advantage of the eckspees; I'd just chalk it up an isolated crap weekend.

I'm @Uziel21, btw. :-)

I think rather then a server merge they could offer free transfers off the over populated servers to balance it. Which won't happen. If it bugs you, pay the ($9? $15?) money and move youreself.

It always seemed funny to me, but I usually play on Triumph or Liberty which are fairly light servers, which is good since my puter isn't uber.

But it seems like when you want to team, it's a ghost town, but if you want to solo you get 50 team/farm/bridge/fill invites in 5 minutes.

I dunno about server merging... I wouldn't hold my breath on that since that would seem like a very sketchy PR move ( ... )

It would be a PR disaster and a logistics nightmare.

Just consider what merging two servers would mean. There will be thousands of duplicate character names. Who gets to keep their names and who gets screwed? And what about SG/VG groups? There's sure to be overlaps there too. And what are the odds that everything will transfer perfectly? Think of the screams if whole bases vanish into the ether, taking their storage bins with them.

Because it wouldn't be the same as an individual character transfer where you can make choices. It would be mandatory, with everyone at the mercy of whatever system the devs came up with. If it were my server, I'd be breaking out the pitchforks and torches.
