Karma is the sum of your actions as you proceed through life. Everything you do plants a seed that will one day bear fruit, either for good or bad. Likewise, the karma of those you interact with affects your own. When people die, they carry their unripened karma with them into the next life.

They say that to reach Nirvana is to have nothing but fully ripened karma, and leave no loose ends.
