"The net is like a vast sea of lutefisk with tiny dinosaur brains embedded in it here and there. Any given spoonful will likely have an IQ of 1, but occasional spoonfuls may have an IQ more than six times that!"

- James 'Kibo' Parry
Happy Chanukkah, Everybody! Try the latkes, they're the best in the city.

Ahh. That is one thing I miss down here... There's little in the way of Jewish food, except for gefilte fish, pickled herring, and borscht in jars. Oh... and Hebrew National hot dogs. There's just not a big enough Jewish population in the area to get a kosher deli or whatnot. (Mind you, none of my friends down here see how I can even eat gefilte.) Actually, it tends to be a very small section in the supermarkets here. In Upstate, there'd have been at least half-an-aisle devoted to the various kosher items.

I think I surprised my step-son when I could answer what some of the Jewish holidays were meant to celebrate. Thanks to where we went to college, I actually know more Jewish holidays than Christian ones, now. :)

You know, there's a lot to laugh at in that statement. Not the least of which is that lutefisk is Norwegian, and not really eaten in jewish circles. In fact, I'm not really sure why someone would want to eat the stuff at all.

However, it shouldn't be that long a drive until you're close enough to Northern VA that there'll be a decent deli. And, I did find a place called "The Kosher Pantry" in Richmond.

Well, yah, but you mentioned Chanukkah, which got me thinking about that... Though I have been told that since I like gefilte, I may be one of those crazy people that would like lukefisk. *snerk* I'm not sure I agree with that statement.

And thank you! I looked up where they are and no wonder I hadn't found them... I know that little shopping center. It's mostly hidden from the road with over half the stores facing away from the main road, thus I wouldn't have seen them while driving around. I shall have to go there and see what I can find... well, after the holidays, of course. I would be surprised if they were open right now.

NoVA is hell for traffic, these days. I really do try to avoid it because it's just crazy. Way more aggressive driving than anything I saw in NY, which my husband confirms (he's from east-end LI). With more and more NY and NJ types moving down this way, though, it probably won't be long till there's more stuff here.

As to the original quote: I bet the dinosaur brains would make it tastier! :)
