Here is an oekaki with a mini-fic explanation... thing I did back in 2010. I was going to maybe redraw it at some point because parts of it drive me crazy (WHY CAN'T YOU DRAW HEADS THE SAME SIZE geez woman) but whatevs. I still kinda like it, so I'll throw it up here because sudden relevance (kinda).
Inspired by my favorite promo, of course:

After that scene, the argument quickly devolved into even more infantile insults.
"It's SODA, you little maggot!"
"POP, you colossal... dorkus!"
Realizing they were getting nowhere, MATT and CODY decided to poll the rest of the Digidestined (and a few others) to see if they could settle the matter once and for all. However, the poll was far from unbiased, and far from conclusive...
TK and JUN sided with Matt on principle, and TAI sided *against* him for the same reason.
KARI honestly prefers calling it soda, and can't understand why her brother is so stubborn.
DAVIS, of course, had to side with his idol, which unfortunately put him at odds with the girl he likes and his rival for her love. D:
KEN wanted to side with his DNA digivolving partner as a gesture of solidarity, but is really ambivalent to the question itself.
YOLEI thinks pop sounds cooler, and she's prepared to defend her choice to the ends of the earth.
WILLIS wanted to pick the side with the most fine-lookin ladies on it, which also happened to be the best choice for annoying Davis. Bonus!!
SORA, JOE, and IZZY chose the third option as a way of reaching a compromise. Actually, Izzy just picked something so that everyone would leave him alone and he could get back to coding.
Cody's Grandpa CHIKARA and GENNAI were also invited to participate, but their fondness for prunes skewed the results in an unexpected way.
And, for reasons known only to her, MIMI decided to side with the state of Texas and vote for Coke. As in, "I'll have a Coke." "OK, what kind?" "Pepsi" (er, so I've heard, anyway).
Yes, I spent way too much time thinking about which side each kid would choose, cuz that's... just the way I roll :B
And what's your preference? Personally, I used to call in pop (as do a lot of people in my native state-- except for my sister, grrr!), but then I briefly moved to a state where people mostly called it soda, so I've become a reluctant convert. :P Still, I remember participating in a few eerily similar, equally pointless soda vs. pop arguments while living in the dorms during college, and I still wonder about the geographic distribution of one compared to the other. Can you make trends based on state? County? City? What about other English speaking countries? Has anyone studied this phenomenon? Inquiring minds want to know!
Anyway, I guess all that helps explain my fondness for this promo.
In other news, October 9 is only a week away AAAAAGH :DDDDDDD
