I said just about all of the things you shouldn't say

Bill Cosby has (or had) a few things to say about fatherhood. Why am I reading this? Don't worry - this isn't me being gung-ho on reproduction. Sometimes I pick up something just because it's there. Not because it's the best, but it's some snap decision, and I'll stick with that to see how it ends. Some decisions are better than others. This ( Read more... )

For some reason, he has these big, getting-close-to-bushy sideburns. I don't know what he's doing.

it was the 70s. doesn't he also have a potentially itchy mustache or goatee in some pictures, though?

and: i feel i can comment on the itchiness (or at least the scratchiness) of facial hair, at least by proxy. when the hairs are short, it's rough, stubbly, and scratchy. but when they're longer, it's so much softer and less scratchy. i hate when dan shaves.

That was misleading citizenx August 31 2005, 16:39:42 UTC
I meant he has those sideburns NOW.

I know how the facial hair feels to others, but clean-shaven feels good and stubbly feels fine to me (for the times I touch my face). After a few days, it gets into itchy for me (not when I touch my face, but in general). That's where it is now. I'm not sure how long it'll take before it's not itchy anymore. That's part of the experiment.

Shaving requires upkeep. It sucks, but I do it. After all, beards require upkeep as well, and I'm not big on this. However, EXPERIMENT.

I read that book for pretty much the same reason. I found it amusing.

Hello, lizard citizenx August 31 2005, 16:27:46 UTC
I liked the very beginning, the first paragraph being how you've made this decision to give up quiet evenings and time together and this and that, the second paragraph being one word: "Why?"

I bet a commune would be a good place for baby lizards.

Tips? citizenx September 1 2005, 04:03:25 UTC
I'm not sure what kind of tips to give. I'd say to look for a good place to get one, a place that'll be honest about what the kitten is like (attitude, health, what-have-you). Make sure your place is ready for it (kitten-proofing can be more difficult than you think) and that you're ready for everything you'll have to do.

You can see ads, go to stores and shelters. Make sure you spay/neuter. Treat it well. Get a good vet. And don't limit yourself to only a kitten unless you really, really want to have something super-cute and be that much of an impact on your pet. Older cats are still cute, can adjust to and care for you, and are obviously less likely to be picked up.

Cat-proofing citizenx September 2 2005, 04:43:47 UTC
This can be harder than you think, especially if you're getting a kitten. Cats can get smaller than you expect, squeeze into more areas, jump higher. They're amazing like that. And they're curious, so they'll get loose objects and knock things about. Hide, lock down, or block everything you can think of: rubber bands and small toys, cups, any small holes.

When the cat gets more used to the place, you can teach it how to behave better. And make sure to let it get used to the new place slowly, first starting with one room and then more.

I used to find Ariel in the most surprising places.

You can always find more things with Google, of course.
