Box

Well after realizing that the holidays are almost here and I have family coming to town starting this weekend I just didn't know if I would get a chance to show you all my box at the same time so I'll just post pics. Hopefully I am putting these in an order to make understanding how it was build easier but this is not necessarily the order in which ( Read more... )

Jay! That is seriously awesome! It would be great to see it in rl, but great job on capturing the steps to completion.

Thanks! this write up is the short version because there were tons of other steps for small stuff that mostly had to do with me figuring out while building it what this thing will actually be like when I am done. Now that I know how to make one I could do another in under 40 hours. I forgot to mention that the key-bug-thing was made from two flat sheets of metal that I sank (hammered the shit out of) until it made that round shape and then welded the two halves together after cutting the teeth out. I really wish I could have finished getting texture on the key-bug and maybe some more arms :)

Jesus fuck, man. I was scrolling through the first half of this post, thinking "I've already seen this IRL, so I'm going to post something clever like 'so where's the penis go?'" - then you had to go and bust out with not one, but TWO ALIEN DICKS.

Thanks!

maybe I'll put my lose change in there.

nah, I don't think I will really keep anything in there since the lock and key are not really practical. The lid lacks an adequate handle so opening it is awkward and there isn't anything that clearly directs the lid to being closed a certain way. Since the locking pins are not all protruding with exactly the same alignment from the sides of the lid there is only one good way to close it. Honestly that was a major factor in why I made the key into a little monster because I wanted people to be interested in figuring out how to open the box and then to discover it "hidden" on a different piece of work. I want to make things that people want to touch and explore... (insert joke about touching box)
