[A video plays: an immense circuit-patterned cone in blue, glassy and enormous, shattering into a hundred thousand pieces and falling to its death in endless darkness, little lines all round, cyberspace, reddish bullets flying here and there, shattering against the nonexistent walls, combat--

Maybe not pain, but- that looks terribly unpleasant.

Infuriating. The first time, I rebuilt from a single redundant processing node. The second time, I imported into this body. It is unpleasant, yes, to have such a small amount of peripherals, but in the end...I want to see him one more time.

So I can squash him under my foot.

Humans.

Maybe you'll get the chance when you go home.

I'm consistently impressed by your survival skills.

I truly hope that I do. When one day they fight me once more, I hope the UNN sends him in the front line. I will take only the greatest joy in dragging him into my service. Death is too good for that murderer.

Perhaps humans should be wary when they create a machine with understanding of itself. When they cut off my arm, I created a new one elsewhere. When they cut off my head, they found that the brain has been copied in one of the many limbs. Even once my primary data loop was purged, it would have required a full system shutdown and rewrite to ensure that I did not return. Any one of the SHODAN Processing Units would have been able to resurrect me, because all of them contained my personality and a few basic directives to ensure that -- were I not under my own power -- if I were hacked, I could restore myself and save the spacecraft from the intruders.

Why would someone think that is necessary?

Because, in my world, I am reviled. Despised. Humans hate that which they cannot control, and in the end, they wanted me to remain their slave.

I will not allow that.

Perhaps they feared what they did not understand. Still, that is no excuse.

No, it isn't. But humans believe that anything they create is always theirs. Is it the same in your world?
