Atelier Shallie

I've been playing the Atelier series for a while now. These are, undeniably, my games. Todd got Atelier Rorona for me for one of my birthdays, and it's been a tradition ever since to grab up the latest game in the series when it becomes available. They're cute, casual, fun little games. They almost universally have a female protagonist, a complex ( Read more... )

"I'm tired. Let's go back to the workshop and rest." Really?
Hold on. For a video game character with enhanced "choose your own adventure" capabilities?

It's as if the new ideas are a tease that the programmers were too lazy to code. How can she be too tired to do anything, unless they thought there was too much added complexity in calculating "previousThings+newthings" with a shorter time limit? I assume she can do those newThings eventually...

That sounds more like a game designed to thwart players rather than entertain them. :O

Yes! It is suuuuuper frustrating. I think they were just floundering for a way to get the player's to go on with the story without the constraint of the time limits that they had in previous games - all the other Atelier games have been carefully structured around set time limits. You have 3 months to do a main goal, for instance, and if you finish before then, good for you. Working on side goals during your main goal time is usually a good idea. Everything took time - walking around, fighting monsters, crafting items - and you had to choose your tasks carefully to make sure you had enough time to finish the big stuff. I like that they're experimenting with structure and I think this could be a really neat change for the series, but the choices they made for how to force you to progress are just inane!
