various small updates

Home in bed sick today, with a frog in my throat and a touch of fever. I've been rattling around trying to nap and giving up and reading more internet and then trying to sleep again. dude, me too, but now I have this half-bottle of bourbon I need to get through before I feel justified in buying a bottle of rye! and whoa, dry vermouth sounds potentially good, but I've never done it- tell me more.

well, there is some debate about whether to use sweet vermouth or dry vermouth in a Manhattan. if you use dry vermouth, it's called a dry manhattan, and if you use a mixture of sweet and dry, it's called a perfect manhattan. i haven't decided yet what i like best- i haven't tried the dry vermouth with the rye, so we'll see how that works out.

i've also heard of a 'Rob Roy' in which one uses Scotch, but I haven't had any scotch on hand to try it with.

Only use blended scotch for that application.

Single malt is (a) too good for that, and (b) too good for that.
