This is not much of an update, but uktena recently let me know about Nigel Slater, and I found this article that I've finally had time to read all of (it's been sitting on the computer screen for three days, I think).

I'll remember some of those for this year's Christmas dinner.

1) chain the dog to the heating
2) chain anybody who wants to be nosey in the kitchen to the heating as well
3) if someone gets cheeky, take away their option to eat with european cutlery
4) have a drink
